Dogs

Dog, Common
Dogs were first domesticated by humans sometime in their prehistory on Terrium, and where ever humans have spread, dogs have followed. When humans developed their own spelljamming vessels capable of traveling the vast distances between worlds, “humanity’s best friend” began their own great journey across the cosmos. An exhaustive list of dog breeds in the cosmos would be far too long to present here, but any breed that is not exceptionally large or small should be considered a common dog.

Dog, Lap
Small dogs are commonly kept as pets throughout the cosmos. The title “lap dog” encompasses a large number of breeds; some bred purely for their looks and companionship, while others are hunting and working dogs which descend from larger breeds. They are generally not suitable for combat training, but they can serve as watch dogs. While not appropriate as an animal companion, lap dogs do make excellent familiars. Lap dogs have the same statistics as foxes, except they use the special abilities listed below as familiars.

Example Lap Dog Familiars
Badger Hound 3 to Perception checks (4 when scent is involved)
Corgi 3 to Acrobatic checks
Lion Dog +3 to Diplomacy
Low Hound +2 to Fortitude Saves
Pug +3 to Diplomacy Checks
Spaniel +2 to Will Saves
Terrier +3 to Perception checks (
4 when hearing is involved)

Dog, Riding
Smaller races sometimes refer to some exceptionally large dog breeds as ‘Riding Dogs.’ Halflings in particular have an affinity for such dogs, who serve them as both mounts and faithful companions. The most popular breed amongst halflings is the Viajando dog, which resembles a gigantic corgi (though the relationship between the two breeds is debatable.) Other oversized breeds that commonly serve as riding dogs include; Bull Mastiffs, Deerhounds, Great Danes, Huskies, and Wolfhounds.
